Ministry of Education requests budget of 5% from GDP, in 2006, for education

Ministry of Education and Research (MEdC) wants the education system to receive a budget of 5% from GDP in 2006, in 2005 the ministry making “a considerable effort" to obtain in rectification sums allowing salary increase for didactic stuff, informs MEdC.

The head of former PNA asks that 11 anticorruption prosecutors be dismissed

The head of former PNA asks that 11 anticorruption prosecutors be dismissed BUCHAREST, Oct 1 Daniel Morar, head of the National Anticorruption Department (DNA) asks that 11 anticorruption prosecutors – heads of territorial services or working with the central structure of the former PNA – be dismissed; the list with their names was sent to CSM (Superior Magistrates Office Council) on Friday evening.

Juridical sources declared for Mediafax that the list with the 11 investigators was sent to CSM Friday evening, and that it would be discussed during the Council’s meeting on Tuesday. According to the recent amendments to the Laws regarding the justice reform, CSM’s authorization is only consultative, as the revocations and assignments in positions are made by the President of the country, following a justified proposal made by the Minister of Justice, the head of the Prosecutors Office with the Supreme Court or of the former PNA.

Greeks relaunch mobile phone network (Bucharest Business Week)

Following the announcement last week of a 450 million Euro re-launch to strengthen its market position, analysts said Greek-owned mobile phone operator Cosmorom face a stiff challenge.
With one per cent of the market, officials promised last week to invest the money over the next three years, including a major overhaul of its existing network.
Saying the company will "make full use of the Romtelecom infrastructure," general manager Nikolaos Tsolas, said its parent company, CosmOTE, "will provide know-how, the products and services and customer care models."
Evangelos Martigopoulos, general manager of CosmOTE, said, "Our eyes are now on Romania.

Negotiations for the minimum salary: according to the available budget (mediafax)

Negotiations between the Government and the trade unions on increasing the minimum salary per economy will take place according to the present financial possibilities and by taking into account the already increased incomes of the budgetary personnel, said Premier Călin Popescu Tăriceanu.

"We have to see the bases of trade unions’ request and to take into account the budgetary constrains. The negotiations will start within the limits of the law and by taking into account this year’s important salary growths", said Tăriceanu.

Prime Minister Tariceanu meets Baroness Emma Nicholson

Bucharest, Sept 27 (Rompres) - Romanian Prime Minister Calin Popescu-Tariceanu met Baroness Emma Nicholson, a member of the European Parliament, here on Tuesday, to thank for her constant support for the Romanian reform on child protection; he also said he was confident she would keep on backing the Romanian authorities' efforts, the government's press office said in a news release.

Closing ceremony of the EXPO 2005 Aichi Japan

25 of September- EXPO 2005 Aichi Japan closed today by a special ceremony attended, among others, by His Imperial Highness Prince Naruhito and the Japanese prime-minister Junichiro Koizumi. All the participant countries have been greeded for their overall contribution to the evolution of the World Expositions movement. The next world expos will take place at Zaragoza - 2008 - and Shanghai - 2010.

Traian Basescu, the president of Romania, doesn't want to declare the state of necessity. He doesn't believe that at this point it is necessary to declare this state; many believes that it is necessary to declare it because of the inundations that affected Romania.
