The head of former PNA asks that 11 anticorruption prosecutors be dismissed BUCHAREST, Oct 1 Daniel Morar, head of the National Anticorruption Department (DNA) asks that 11 anticorruption prosecutors – heads of territorial services or working with the central structure of the former PNA – be dismissed; the list with their names was sent to CSM (Superior Magistrates Office Council) on Friday evening.

Juridical sources declared for Mediafax that the list with the 11 investigators was sent to CSM Friday evening, and that it would be discussed during the Council’s meeting on Tuesday. According to the recent amendments to the Laws regarding the justice reform, CSM’s authorization is only consultative, as the revocations and assignments in positions are made by the President of the country, following a justified proposal made by the Minister of Justice, the head of the Prosecutors Office with the Supreme Court or of the former PNA.

Negotiations between the Government and the trade unions on increasing the minimum salary per economy will take place according to the present financial possibilities and by taking into account the already increased incomes of the budgetary personnel, said Premier Călin Popescu Tăriceanu.

The Senate voted yesterday the new legislation regarding the highway code. What is interesting about it, is that in case of an accident, if a pigeon crossed a street in a place where he didn't supposed to, the fault is considered to be entirely his. Don't know what to say about it, excepting the fact that this rule implicitly suppose that the streets are totally previewed with enough crossing zebras.

Concert in the Revolution Square

On Saturday, the 9th of April, in the evening, we assisted to a really nice concert held in the Revolution Square in Bucharest. The concert gathered together many romanian bands and singers, like Nicola, Holograf, Directia 5, Iris, Pro Consul, etc. My impression were that it was a nice concert and that the people had a lot of fun!

Yesterday, the 8th of April, took place in Bucharest at the Radio Hall a concert in memory of the Pope. In the first part of the concert they played Richard Wagner - Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg and Richard Strauss and in the second part was Mozart's Requiem. There is a long time since I didn't see so many people at the Radio Orchestra!

The new mayor of the capital, Adriean Videanu was invested in his official function yesterday. Asked if he noticed the absence of the fifth sector mayor, Marian Vanghelie, he said that the Mayor was invited, but he is not general chancellor. Videanu walked the distance from Odeon Theatre, where the ceremony took place, to the City Hall.

It seemes that Marian Vanghelie didn't have the licence to use in his campaign a few songs. In order to use these songs, he would have had to have the licence from three institutions of Romania. On the megaphones of the cars that were inviting the citizens to vote him, you could hear "The Final Countdown" (Europe) and "Conquest of Paradise" (Vanghelis).

Upset because of the lost elections, Marian Vanghelie, the candidate of PSD, requires the resignations of two ex-ministers from PSD: Gabriel Oprea and Eugen Bejenariu. At the Press Conference after the elections he said that he will propose to Bucharest Organization of PSD to do an analysis regarding the organization of the elections and those who are guilty of the bad organizing of the elections are to be punished.

The most expensive elections

The elections for the Bucharest Mayor seemed to had been the most expensive elections in the history of Bucharest. As we can read in the newspapers, it seems that one vote costed 3 euro in the conditions where the Government allocated 50 milliards lei for the organizing of local elections and only 430 thousands of citizens from Bucharest went to vote. Reading the statistics, it seemed that for the general elections in December 2004, a citizen paid 1 euro for each round, in the conditions where the elections where for the President and for the two Chambers of the Parliament. The expensive costs of the elections for Bucharest Mayor came from the fact that they were many absent people if we consider that the Capital has about 2 millions of people. The truth is that the elections were shadowed by other events, like the death of the Pope and the disparition of the three journalists in Iraq.

If you want to go to a place where you can find all kind of things and all kind of people, Mall is a good place to go, although it's always crowded. The good thing is that now it is not only one Mall in Bucharest, there is a new one built in Militari and onother one on the way to Otopeni. I am sure that Bucharest people feel happy about it, as they have a choice now. It's obviously that it's a life style for them to go and spend their time and money there.

There are lots of things that you can do: you can whatch a film or doing your shopings or have a coffee, etc.

As predicted, Adriean Videanu won the elections for Bucharest Mayor. It is no great surprise, as I have already mention, he had all the chances to win. He had in the end 53% of the entire available votes. In the second position was Marian Vanghelie and on the third position Cristian Popescu known for the voters as "Piedone".

Who is going to be the new Mayor of Bucharest?

Today we'll find out who is going to be the new Mayor of Bucharest. After the counting of 33% of the votes, Adriean Videanu(PD) seemed to have 47% from the entire amount of votes and Marian Vanghelie(PSD) 36%. If none of them will obtain 50% plus 1 from all the votes, there is going to be a second round, the next Sunday.. It is important to mention that only 1/5 from the citizens of Bucharest went to vote. This is the lowest presence to vote from the last 15 years. In the 4th Sector, the presence was of 24%, in the 3rd Sector the presence to vote was of 18% and the medium for the entire Bucharest was of about 20%.

I ate today to a really nice restaurant. It's called La Rambla and it's in the center of Bucharest. You can easily find it on the Vulturilor street, next to the Unirii Boulevard. If you are in Bucharest, this is for sure a nice place to eat.

General Elections for Bucharest Mayor

On Sunday, the third of April, we will assist at the general elections for Bucharest Mayor. It's not what we use to call spectacular elections, but anyway, let's see what hapens! They are about 17 candidates from different parties. Many people think that the winner will be Adriean Videanu, mostly because he came from the same party (Democrat Party) as the actual president of Romania, Traian Basescu. It's possible that in the people's minds Videanu seems to be Basescu's legitimate succesor at the Bucharest Mayor. Adriean Videanu is not a proeminent politic figure, his votes will come most probably on a sentimental basis, as he represents the Democrat Party. In my opinion, he is one of the politiciens who is lucky to represent a party that has a lot of simpathy among Bucharest's citizens. The candidate from Social Democrat Party is the actual Mayor of the 5th Sector of Bucharest. It's obviosly that he does the best he can, but I 'm afraid that he is not the kind of person that can stand as General Mayor of Bucharest. More about this subject after the elections.

My impression about Bucharest

When I first came in Bucharest I had the impression of an ugly and big post-communist city. Viewing all the dirty grey blocks wasn't exactly what I was expecting from the capital. One can consider Bucharest also a nice city, it depends of which part of it we are considering. They are many nice regions, mostly the Old Bucharest. This is one of the reasons I chose to speak in a blog about "Old Bucharest". As any other city, as any other capital where there is a mixture of people of different nations, Bucharest is very diverse. Not only in wealth, but also in styles. At the corner of the street you can see an old lady begging for money and just next to her you can see the last model of a Ferrari. Quite a variety, isn't it? They are many rich people, as well as poor people. I believe one can notice the realities of a city only by living in it. And still...My question is: is it or is it not Bucharest a nice place to live in? It's an open question. I let it to you.
